What is VPN & do I need it?

VPN stands for "virtual private network" and extends a private network (JCCAL network) across a public network (your home PC) and enables users to send and receive data between networks as if their computing devices were directly connected to the JCCAL network. Please do not connect through VPN if it’s not necessary. As more and more users are connected through VPN, the network bandwidth is having to work that much harder to keep up with the demand.

Here’s a few examples of who may and may not need VPN access:

You do not need VPN access for the following:

• Access to e-mail - including mail folders.
• Access to UKG Ready.
• Access to Employee Portal/Intranet.
• Using Microsoft Teams.

You do need VPN access for the following:

• Access to files stored on a network drive.
• Access to files stored on your work PC.
• Access to ServiceDesk
