Birmingham, AL (May 17, 2019) – The Jefferson County Department of Environmental Services advises residents to avoid fishing, swimming and boating in the Bayview Lake andVillage Creek area this weekend due to a sewage spill at its Village Creek Water Reclamation Facility. Note that this overflow does not affect public drinking water.

“We are exercising an abundance of caution with this spill and wants to advise the public to avoid swimming, fishing and boating from Highway 269 to the end of Bayview Lake through Monday, May 20,” said Denard. “In addition to notifying the media we are putting out signs in the area as well as using our social media notifications. We will be testing the water in the area throughout the weekend and will release updates as needed.”
