A private meter may be installed on a water service line at a residence, or a business. Although primarily used for irrigation, private meters may be utilized for any fixtures, equipment, or systems that do not discharge wastewater to the sanitary system. These meters are separate from your primary water supply meter and must be registered by an Environmental Services Inspector. Birmingham Water Works customers must register their private meter with BWWB.
It is the responsibility of the private meter user to submit their readings every six months via mail following the initial registration by the ESD Inspector. Credit adjustments may take up to eight weeks to post to your account due to consumption validation.
