    Jefferson County, AL has launched ePermitJC February 1st, 2020. The ePermitJC portal allows users to register, apply for and view permits online. We are pleased to announce that customers can upload plans and documents without visiting the County, monitor and track the process of their applications, view corrective comments from our team, pay fees, and more.

  • Adoption of New Building, Gas, Plumbing And Electrical Codes:
    Beginning February 03, 2020 Jefferson County is adopting with modifications the 2018 Editions of the Plumbing, Fuel Gas, and Building International Code Council (ICC) and the 2017 National Electric Code (NEC). Any application for a building, electric, plumbing, or gas permit submitted on this date shall have design and work that meets the minimum standards set forth in these codes, or as adopted by Jefferson County Ordinances (Ordinance 1842, 1843, 1844, and 1845).
    Copies of these specific ICC codes may be found online at the ICC website, or by purchasing hard copies of the publications from ICC online bookstore. Jefferson County makes no warranty of products sold by the ICC.

  • Please note: Jefferson County will no longer charge per item for trade permits (plumbing, fuel gas, mechanical, and electrical). All permit fees will be based on the job valuation. You will need a copy of the job contract, a quote or other documentation of the value of the work you will be doing on the permit in order to apply beginning February 3, 2020.

  • Effective Immediately:
    All COs are signed and ready for pick up only at 8:30 am and 4:15 pm (M-F). Please call ahead of time to confirm your CO is ready to be picked up.

  • As of January 1, 2020, Jefferson County will no longer issue County Cards for Electrical Master, Electrical Journeyman, and Electrical Apprentice to work in unincorporated County.
    A copy of the current State of Alabama Master Electrician License will be required to represent a company as the Master for the Company.

To pull an Electrical Permit for 110 volts or above, the following is required:
  • Current State of Alabama Master Electrician Card
  • Current Jefferson County Business license
  • Current Driverís License
To pull a Low Voltage permit for normal items, the following is required:
  • Current Jefferson County Business license
  • Current Driverís License
To pull a Fire Alarm Permit, the following is required:
  • Current State Certification
  • Current Jefferson County Business license
  • Current Driverís License

The Jefferson County Development Services department maintains the official zoning map of Jefferson County. Only this office has the OFFICIAL zoning of unincorporated county property; zoning information obtained from ANY other source, including other County Departments, should be verified through our office before taking any kind of action.
