Risk Management Division

The Risk Management Division is part of the County Attorney’s Office whose primary focus is on the identification and elimination of any risk that may result in property loss, injury or legal liability. Risk Management administers the County’s Self-Insured programs of general and auto liability and workman’s compensation.

How to submit a claim with Jefferson County Commission

If you wish to file a claim with Jefferson County Commission, which is a governmental entity, there are requirements established by state law that must be fulfilled. Section 11-12-5, Code of Alabama 1975 states: “No claim against the County shall be passed upon or allowed by the County Commission, unless it is itemized by the claimant or some person on his behalf having personal knowledge of the facts…” You have 12 months from the date of loss to submit your claim to Risk Management.

To assist in fulfilling this legal requirement, see below Forms you will need to complete. Click on the type of claim you wish to file- General Liability or Auto Liability for the appropriate claim affidavit and personal property inventory form, if applicable to your claim.

When you have completed your affidavit, sign and have your signature notarized. The affidavit should be returned to the address listed on the affidavit. You should attach to your affidavit any supporting documents to include but not limited to; two repair estimates, photos of damages, police report (if applicable), any paid receipts, invoices, witness statements, medical records, etc. that will support your claim.

All claims are reviewed and investigated. If information is missing or additional information is needed, you will be contacted.
