Self-help Information

The JeffCo Law Library contains primary and secondary law materials, as well as access to online legal databases.

We do not have self-help books.  Instead, the Birmingham Public Library has a large collection of legal self-help materials available to the public.

We have created a selected list of titles for you.  Please search the public library's catalog for a more complete list.

Another great resource is Alabama Legal Help.  It "is an independent, non-profit organization that provides qualifying low-income families with legal aid and assistance in civil matters. LSA is a statewide program serving all 67 counties in Alabama."  There, you can find self-help forms, tips on understanding your legal issue, and help finding legal assistance.

If you are looking for specific forms, you can access them for free from the Administrative Office of Courts' E-form database.  If you are unsure which form you need, please contact your county clerk's office or an attorney.  The Law Library cannot advise you on form selection.
